I'm Seeing Red-Again!

I am so ready for some projects. There are so many things in my house that are bothering me. So many things I am tired of. Just don't have the time right now to regroup and make some plans. That being said-the entry way has bothered me ever since I chopped up the hall tree. Just could never get a handle on what I wanted here but knew it WASN'T what I had. As I was putting up Valentine's Day, I thought about swapping out the small chest that was in one of the guest rooms for the small desk I had in the entry. It still isn't what I want, but it is at least a change, so it will stay here for awhile.

You will see many familiar things as we begin to travel through the house. I figured if it was, red, white, silver or mercury glass, it could stay. And boy, did that make life a lot easier as I was putting away and putting out!

This vignette is almost as it was for Christmas. I think the only thing I changed was the addition of the "love banner" that I made last year.

Trying hard to keep things a little simpler this year. Definitely succeeding here on the blanket chest where the only true Valentine decoration is the subway art downloaded from the internet. They are all over Pinterest right now if you would like to find one of your own. Everything else just suggests the holiday because it is red or romantic feeling. I still love the pillow tossed on the chair. It is red velvet on one side, red taffeta on the other and bordered with wine colored feathers. It was a gift from daughter # 2 several years ago. She found it at Home Goods which reminds me that a trip there very soon is in order.

Again, just using red and white with a few Valentine frames and votives thrown in.

Above the mirror I hung the X/O banner that I made last year. I simply cut the letters and heart out of chip board and glittered them. Then I added a small rose made by twisting newsprint. I probably should have taken it down to photograph because it is hard to make it out reflecting in the mirror. It is actually hard to photograph anything in my house because I have so many mirrors and windows.

The cloche is filled this year with Hershey's Kisses, small hearts and one of the block photo holders the girls made a few years ago. I filled it with a vintage Valentine instead of photo and then made a tag to tie off of the top. No one thing really pops at me when I look at these pictures but when the room is taken as a whole and the red Valentine lights are lit, it says just enough "Happy Valentine's Day" for me. We have a long way to go. Stay tuned.

  1. It looks pretty. Better keep your eyes on the little ones (or some of the big ones) when they see the cloche filled with chocolates!!
