One Thing Leads to Another...

So, when last seen, the foyer was looking like this. I was liking the new look on the chest-very shabby chic-but really not liking the mirror now. I had found an inspiration piece on Pinterest that had a similar chest with a very large, oval mirror and I couldn't get it out of my head. I headed out to see what I could find.

Since this was supposed to be an almost free make over, I decided that I would not look for mirrors in furniture stores but keep my search to less expensive selections. I hit most of the "big box" stores and all of the oval mirrors were too small-at least in my head. I really wanted a statement!

Since it was getting close to the kick off for the first Gator game of the season, I wanted to get something and head home-have I mentioned before that I am fairly impatient when it comes to this sort of thing? Once I have made up my mind, I want it NOW! That "want it now" feeling hit while I was in Lowes-yes, once again. I told you I don't bear grudges. There were no large oval mirrors to be had, so I chose a large rectangular one by Allen and Roth. It has an oil rubbed bronze finish with a bit of aged copper patina as well. Fits right into my love of the "rusty" feel. And, did I say it was large?

Fast forward to half time when I decided it had to be hung. Thought it would be a bear as it had those hooks that meant measuring had to be precise-and it had a definite warning NOT to use wire instead-which I so would have done. But, the measuring gods must have been on my side because the hooks fit into place perfectly. Too bad I can't say the same for the rest of the vignette.

If you have looked a picture ahead, you have noticed that I mixed things up a bit. I love the large mirror-just not over the smaller scaled chest. I have looked back on my inspiration picture a few times and I think their large mirror worked with their smaller chest because the mirror was oval. Even though it was large, it didn't "read" as such in the design.

So, this is how the foyer looks right now and I love it. I simply moved the piece from the other end of this wall over here. Because the table is wider than the mirror, it works for me. Disregard the scene under the table-haven't gotten there yet!

And this piece now sits opposite where it used to be. I added the oil rubbed bronze cup pulls and I love it. Again, is it what I would have picked if I had headed out to buy something new? Not at all. But, since it was here all along, I like its new appearance.

Of course, I had to move a few other things on that wall as well to give it a bit more symmetry, but a few more holes in the wall never hurt anyone. Might give me another reason why it is about time that this room got repainted. Stay tuned.
