Gotta Be Flexible

I think I told you my week looked pretty empty so I decided to start one of my larger projects yesterday. It worked out fine that I did or I wouldn't be here in my house still clean from my shower and ready to make an about turn.

Yesterday I decided to tackle the about 30 old fence slats that have been piling up since I started the fence rehab. I don't want to just throw them all out because there is a lot of craft wood on those slats but there is also a lot of rot and old rusty nails. My usual line of attack is to get out my old friend, the miter saw, and cut the slats into usable pieces and throw aways. I like to cut the throw away pieces into manageable sizes so that I can just put them into my trash can and I don't have to leave them out where a sanitation worker could possibly get caught on a nail.

That process actually ended up taking me much longer than I had thought and then, as I almost always do, I found my way to another project while I was out there.

I had made a stone pad for my garbage and recycle cans a few years ago and I took the stones tight up to the garage wall-which is stucco meeting the foundation. A month or so ago I noticed water in the garage and we realized it was coming in where those two things meet-probably because I had the stones pitched incorrectly. In any case, there are a few things that might be done but before I can get someone to address those, I decided to dig out the area and lay the stones further away from the wall and below the line of the meeting spot so that maybe the water won't collect.

In any case, by the time I came in I was whipped and could hardly stand straight so, the next part of that project that was meant for today got put on hold while I tackled a few less heavy things inside and, hence, the fact that I am now able to quickly pivot and head to an out of town lacrosse game for my grand daughter. She plays JV but is often asked to "play up" and I guess that is what happened at practice and we are off again! Lol

While I was waiting for sheets to wash, I decided to print a free download that a group I followed sent out. The image was adorable...and looks nothing like the way mine printed...at least not color wise.

I actually ended up printing this image 5 times. The first 2 came out black and white no matter what I did and no matter that my printer said it still had about 1/4 full cartridges of both inks. I went ahead and put in new ink any way and got the orange tinted prints. Since I had tried every trick I know-and, because my printer has been making everyone look like they have Bozo the Clown colored hair, I decided to go with the orangey one and paint in the leaves. The original colors are so much prettier but it wasn't going to happen?!?

I painted the canvas with a tint of the green I made for the leaves.

Then, I ModPodged on the print and used some patina and vintage photo distress ink to hit up the sides and some areas on the picture. Because it was still reading SO orange, I added some flowers for a 3-D effect and a few pieces of greenery that have a bit of purple in their leaves.

Definitely not museum worthy-actually I'm not even sure it is anywhere worthy-but, it filled a minute of my day indoors and now I'm ready to run and get changed and head to lacrosse. I'll be back soon. Stay safe and stay tuned.
