Let me start by saying that I am by NO means complaining! Our winter weather feels so much like spring that it definitely tricks the brain - mine at least - into thinking we are months ahead of where we are. And, if past years count for anything, we will get some winter. But, for now, I could live with theses temperatures every day for most of the year! No A/C! No heat! Windows open and the house smelling so fresh and new!
And, as if that isn't enough, all of my perennials are starting to bloom. Of course, if we do get a freeze, that will all be gone but...we can't change Mother Nature! And so, when I last posted, I told you I had a long list of outdoor chores to do. And, wouldn't you think that is what I would have done? Nope. I did do a few things (none of which were on the list-Lol)...and then took some pictures.
I have so many tea olives in my back yard that when you pull up out front, when they are blooming, you are engulfed with their beautiful perfume! I frequently cut small branches and bring them in just so I can keep sniffing them!
The Gerber daisies like this weather so much better than the heat of summer!
As soooo, as I brought these flowers in, I decided to hit the guest rooms and not only wash the sheets but the mattress pads and pillow covers as well. And so, as these things were washing and drying, I decided to go ahead and get crafting. I will admit that I didn't have the supplies that I would have really liked to have had...and so, I didn't really have a true idea where I was going with these crafts. Now that I am done, I am OK with them but, not in love as I wish I was!
Since I had done some moving of things, I found myself with a large red urn on my DR table and it just looked too plain to me. Last year I made a wood tag for another similar urn and, since I still had some blank wooden tags cut and ready to go, I decided to make another.
The first one that I did is white so I wanted this one a bit different. I painted the tag white (so it would be the under color), cut out some hearts and applied them to the tag, painted the whole thing pink and peeled off the heart templates.
Then, I tried just adding the red dots around the scallops and really didn't like that at all so I painted smaller red hearts in the middle.
Then, I sanded just a bit. This is where I would normally distress with the antique wax but, I decided to stick with the "plain" pink...not my usual MO but, like I said, I really had no idea where I was going with this. After that, I just tied it up with some red and white butcher's twine and added it to the urn. Definitely not a total game changer but, I like the way it breaks up all of that red!
And now I bring you back to this picture. Note the Valentine image that I downloaded from the internet. I LOVE the image. There were so many possibilities but I really didn't have any of the supplies for what I wanted to do with this and I didn't want to head out so, I grabbed a plain canvas that I had and did a bit of simple decoupage on it. I am not at all crazy about the lack of detail. I wanted to add a bow...nope! Maybe some flowers...nope! I did "grunge" it up a bit with the antique wax but it is still not a favorite.
I put it up on the shelf in the kitchen and I am OK with it...but, just OK. I am hoping some lovely inspiration will hit me...we shall see. Stay safe and stay tuned.
