So this little cutie arrived a few minutes ago. He will be with me until Friday while his mom-daughter #1-is at the Atlanta Mart. I am excited for his company because as he has aged, he has turned into the most wonderful dog and I enjoy my time with him. He was a rescue that came from Korea and I am so happy he is getting to live his best life.
My plan for this week was to have a laid-back few days with him as weather permits and then maybe get my tree down as well. But then when I talked to my daughter before they headed here, she said she was bringing along some things from her house that I have been waiting for and longing after ever since she first bought them.
She and I have/had very similar taste. We both like things with some history and some wear and tear but, she is an interior designer and privy to all of the latest trends and her taste has been changing a bit. And then, since she has so many repairs finally happening since the last hurricane and her house is going to be in shambles for a bit, she decided to add some extra things to the list that she has been wanting to do for quite some time-including opening a wall. Her house is over 100 years old and sits in the historic district of St. Petersburg so there are many rules to be followed and permits to be gotten-and everything takes time. But, she is finally at the go stage which meant taking down these beauties that I have been loving for so long and passing them along to her dear old mom!
And so, with that knowledge in hand, I added installing them to my list of to-dos for the week. Until they arrived.
I'm not sure what to call this piece but it is a decorative ledge from the front of a French store-I think that's the story on this. I don't know why I thought a few screws would do the job-not to mention just me-but boy was I wrong. Of course this thing would have some weight as it had to sit outside in the elements for many years but, holy cow, I NEVER dreamed it would weigh what it weighs!!
That piece that sits next to it is the piece that her handyman used as a "French cleat". I thought it was because her walls are plaster but now I know it was because of the weight. It is probably the only way to go. But, just look at all of this grungy goodness! This is the kind of piece that my husband would have said "how much did they pay you to take that off of their hands?" LOL But, for whatever convoluted reason, it just screams out to me and I love it so much!!
