Best Laid Plans

You know I have told you that the older I get, the more easily I can handle change. Don't get me wrong...I still like to make plans and see them come to fruition but, now when something changes, I seem to be better able to go with the flow. And, that is today!

I not only ran errands yesterday and got some things for the yard but, I also received the two new chaise cushion sets that I ordered and so, of course, my plan for today had been to get outside, swap cushions around, plant new flowers, reset the fountains, break up more lattice, do some more weeding, fill the bird feeders, etc. in the hopes that by this afternoon I could possibly head out to the pool with "MY" book and a glass of wine and enjoy the area which would now look "spring clean" and ready for the season ahead. You know I am one of those people who just can't relax when the things around me need attention so this was to be my day. Oh, and the "MY" book I referred to is the final hardback copy of all of the "My Stories" I completed over the last year. It was a Christmas gift from my grand daughters in 2023 and I actually completed the WHOLE year on time. I am truly enjoying going back and reading the stories even though I am the one who wrote them. Who knew I could be so amusing and funny? LOL

In any case, while I was still enjoying my last cup of coffee and almost ready to head out, I heard some noise and sure enough, my pool man had arrived to finally install a new pool filter. The filter that is being replaced was the original with the pool over 40 years ago. It has had a few minor tweaks over the years but it has lasted WAAAYYYY longer than predicted so it was a definite necessity at this time. I was still on "go" because I had a few things I could do on the other side of the yard when I heard more noise and yep, now the lawn guys were here as well. I'm never sure when they will arrive because rain can disrupt their schedules and timing is a hit and miss.

So now my whole yard is pretty much "in use" and I am staying inside and looking for something else to do until I can get out there without having to dodge whatever is going on. And so, let's just head into the sunroom. There truly isn't a lot of "spring" in here but it is what it is.

And, just as I finished this, the yard got quiet and I headed out to see what had transpired. I am so excited to have this new pool filter. For the first time in over six months, the bottom of my pool is totally clear of "stuff" that was coming back out through what I can only assume was a rusty pan on the filter?! And, to my delight, the automatic chlorinator that broke during Covid and wasn't available to purchase for awhile has now been replaced also. For the last number of years the pool has had to have a "floater" for the chlorine and that floater literally blistered the steps of my pool when it got stuck there while I was out of town one time. To say I was upset would be an under statement but, there is nothing that can be done-believe me I have tried-so I have learned to live with it and embrace its uniqueness! LOL

But I am SOOOO happy that that floater will soon be in the trash-as soon as I am sure it is free of chlorine tablets and that I can safely dispose of it that way.

This thing is larger than the last but, after 40 years, I guess I could expect a bit of a change.

And then I was off to tackle some of the other chores. This one should be entitled "not for the faint of heart"! I bought two of these cushions last year and they have been on the two chaises at the closet end of the pool and where we gather the most often. They still look good but the much older ones at the other end of the pool were looking kind of ragged so I thought I would go ahead and buy two new, put them on the closest chaises and move the ones from last year to the others. And that was a brilliant idea-until the boxes arrived and I remembered having to put these things together last year. First of all, FedEx delivered two relatively small boxes housing these.

I've never had a mattress in a box but I'm guessing it is the same concept. Once you cut the sealed wrapping, poof! Everything expands...and quickly!

And then you are left to try to get the cushion into the covers as quickly as possible. The longer it takes you, the harder it gets because those cushions keep growing! And, getting the long cushion all the way into the long part of the cover is near impossible. Your arm won't fit all the way to the end and the cushion won't slide easily. It takes flipping back and forth from side to side and moving only about an inch or two closer to the end at a time. When you are just about to throw the thing out the window, you get so close to completion that you persevere and finally you get it! Of course, then you have to do the small section...and the whole other set if you bought two as I did.

The instructions say the cushions may continue to expand for up to 24 hours and after that, you can kind of wiggle them around for final adjustments. I did get them both out and the others moved and was opening the umbrellas that have been down for months when, it happened again. I always open the pool umbrellas slowly because very large tree frogs are often hiding up in there and I'm not a fan of one of those creatures jumping on my head. But, twice in the past, instead of finding a tree frog, I have found a bat-as I did again today. Don't know why but they creep me out even more. I tried to jostle the top of the umbrella to see if I could get his attention to no avail so I am now back in the house doing some things while I wait in hopes that he will just decide to find better hiding place on his own! Lol

Of course, while I was out there my to-do list grew ten fold so I am hoping to spend the next two days outside getting things knocked off of the list. Hopefully by Sunday afternoon I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labors. Stay safe and stay tuned.
