Those of you who know me know that summer is anything but my favorite season! I'll bet even those of you who don't know me but follow this blog know that about me as well!! Here in Central Florida, our summer days can be pretty unbearable and, when many of the things that I love to do are outside, I get somewhat grumpy over the course of the next few months. If I am not outside right as the sun comes up, I am miserable trying to garden in the heat. And so, almost every year at right about this time, I find myself already looking forward to my next decor switch. That will be my switch to sunflowers. I use the sunflowers because they can symbolize summer but, if truth be told, to me they start to suggest the colors of fall and I am always more than ready for that!
In any case, I was perusing Pinterest when I saw a free download for a sunflower picture and then another that I could purchase for a digital download. I had some canvases but not the sizes that I wanted so my trusty miter saw came for a visit and I put together two more pallet pieces. I have truly done this technique so many times that I just took minimal photos this time. I will say that the only thing I did differently was to use quart size paint stirrers - which kind of look like tongue depressors. I thought I would try them because they aren't as thick or heavy as the gallon size stirrers that I usually use. Note to self...when using thinner braces one should probably always check the length of the nail one usually uses. I didn't...and, as I was just finishing nailing it in, I realized what I had done. Yep, said pallet piece was mailed into my table. Luckily. my table has more than enough bumps and bruises that this isn't even noticeable! Lol
I did wet the edges of the prints so I could "feather" them a bit and then simply painted one in black chalk paint and one in my favorite antique wax, Then, it was a simple matter of ModPodging on the prints and dragging some paint onto the edges,
I have no idea where these will end up but you can bet I will be one happy lady as I look for a place! That will mean I am close to making it through another summer! Stay safe and stay tuned.
