Today was supposed to be all about errands but, somehow, I just wasn't feeling it so...I had another one of those days! I got things done that I needed to but, in between I did what I wanted. And, for some reason, I wanted to make a Cracker Jack box! Images of those boxes kept scrolling on my Pinterest page and, because I seem to be all about replicating things from my childhood these days, I just wanted to make that box. I vividly remember loving Cracker Jacks when I was young. I enjoyed finding the prize inside-that used to be MUCH better than it is now-if there even is still a prize in there-but I mostly loved the peanuts. I remember eating all of the popcorn and saving the nuts until the very end. That's probably how I would still eat it-I'm not a huge fan of the caramel popcorn but I still love peanuts!

In any case, I printed the label and then found some thin pieces of craft wood that I had that I thought would work if I put three together to get the proper thickness...and, it actually worked perfectly once I got them cut evenly. All it took then was some wood glue.
Once the wood glue was dry, I gave it a quick coat of off white chalk paint and then ModPodged on the label to the four sides.
If I do say so myself, that looks EXACTLY like an old Cracker Jack box! Lol
There was no label for the top and the bottom and I didn't like the way the raw wood looked so I cut pieces of an off white piece of card stock and glued them on before hitting all of the edges with distressing ink. I'm not sure I remember the label from this far back but I think it closely resembles the way it was when I was a kid-many moons ago. Lol I have no idea why something this silly brings me so much joy but, it does.
And, if I don't stop making things I'm going to have to switch to my large dough bowl because this thing is getting full. Lol
Of course, while I was doing that I was washing sheets, pulling some weeds, watering potted plants and doing this:
That is a little sitting spot I made right outside one of my back doors. I have an old baker's rack there that I use as a potting bench and I keep a lot of garden tools close so I don't have to go to the other side of the yard to grab one (where the majority of my garden things are stored) so I can do a whatever I see that needs to be done over here. There isn't a lot of garden over here but having this stuff handy does save me a surprising numbers of trips. In any case, it also kind of serves as a store-all place that I don't often think about-that is, until I sit on my newly painted glider to watch the butterflies and birds flitting all over the yard the other day and my eyes fell on this. And, those white shutters just yelled out "paint me!". Those shutters used to be in my kitchen and then in the dining room niche before landing here.
I actually have some of my house trim paint (which is the color I wanted because from a different angle you can see a window on the back wall with shutters the house trim color) left but the thought of painting those shutters by hand-as I once did-didn't appeal to me so the last time I was in Lowes I grabbed a can of spray paint as close to the color as they had. And, I just gave them a new coat.
Lucky for me, I love the "chippy" look-which these things definitely had-so I just sprayed right over all of that chippy paint and, my hopes are that the paint will continue to peel and these will look old again soon. Lol
Again, why something this small makes me smile, I don't know but right now I am a happy camper. Now I'm thinking maybe I should repaint the baker's rack and maybe the tin on the bottom shelf that holds potting soil??? When you give a mouse a cookie....Lol
So that is it for today. Tomorrow will have to be an errand day and then we'll see what the weekend brings. Stay safe and stay tuned.
