Getting Closer

It was a pretty good guess that I was not going to leave Uncle Sam the way he was as I left you yesterday afternoon. If he hadn't been so much work and used just about every kind of technique and craft supply that I own, he might have headed straight to the garbage.

At one point I even considered taking off his jacket to shorten his arms but, that may have jeopardized the jacket all together and I was NOT about to make another one of those. And, I did look at my inspirations again and long arms are a "thing" in the primitive Sams.

And so, I got out my Tim Holtz Distress waxes and started grunging him up a bit more. Even though I sprayed him with the coffee mixture, he just didn't come out dark enough for my liking. I think he looks a bit better...but I'm still not promising that there might not be more to come.

Then, I made him a little "freedom" sign and pinned it on with a faux rusty safety pin that I jerry-rigged by avoiding the "real" way to rust metal-which takes a bit of time-and simply painted it, sprinkled on some cinnamon and then hit it with a quick shot of sealer.

He's getting better but still might not be quite there yet. At least he has earned a spot for at least this year. We shall see where he ends up. Stay safe and stay tuned.
