Quick Pop In

I love my life. I actually love how I'm never really sure how a day will play out unless it is a special occasion and I need to be somewhere special for someone special. Otherwise, I pretty much wake up and decide how I feel and what I might feel like doing that day. Now, make no mistake about it, I make lists of ALL of the things needing doing but I am pretty flexible as to when it may get done-case in point, painting the sunroom ceiling. I have had the paint for two years and I still haven't cracked open that can! Some day I will surprise myself-and everyone else. Lol

So, today I knew I needed to talk with my pool guy. I need a new filter for my pool. The one just chugging along is the original from over 40 years ago. It had been rebuilt or repaired along the way but that is still record breaking and I'm not complaining. But, pool filters of the kind I need are expensive...and getting more expensive every day...so I decided it was time to bite the bullet now that the main part of the fence was done.

Of course, that meant that I didn't want to get into too large a project or be up to my ears in mud when he got here so I just kind of scoped out the house and came upon that cupboard that had gotten moved into a guest room and looked horrible in black so I sanded it down-and that is as far as it got.

And so, today was the day. In preparation for that I had picked up some new stain the last time I was in Lowes. I was leaning towards more of a gray brown because I was going to try a faux finish but, honestly, since I had no idea how it would turn out and then if I would have to do the same to the big armoire in that room also, I decided I just didn't have it in me and I picked up a can of "MinWax Provincial". It actually leaned a bit towards the grays on the sample of pine wood in the store. Of course, I should have factored in that not only had this piece already been stained by the manufacturer but it had also been painted by me. I did as good a job as I could sanding it but there were some areas of paint left behind.

I thought about sanding again but, that wasn't in the cards for today so I just opened that can of stain and got going.

I moved the cupboard out to the living room where it was on wood floors as opposed to the off white carpet in the bedroom. The lighting wasn't great and neither were my eyes but I got started. This is what is was looking like with some of the black paint still there.

Much to my surprise, the provincial stain is almost a perfect match to what was on this cupboard when we bought it. I didn't sand the top because I had not painted the top and it all matches seamlessly!

It's definitely not what I had initially thought of doing and I might someday come back and hit it and the armoire with a dry brush of some kind but, for now, it looks so much better not being black in a room that already had so many other finishes!

I would love to move it back and get it all set up for its final photo but I'm afraid there might still be some damp stain on the legs and feet of that thing and the last thing I need to do is drag that across that carpet.

Tomorrow I am heading out to see if I can rip the rest of the lattice off of the fence. I'm pretty sure I can do that and then all I will need is to have the 8' posts cut back down to 6'...and I know I can't do that. Lol

I will show you this beauty in all of her glory when that stain is good and dry. Until then, stay safe and stay tuned.
