Finishing Up the Gobble!

This is going to be a crazy busy week-after a crazy busy weekend-so I thought I had better get the Thanksgiving decor wrapped up. Let's start in the dining room.

Do you see those white corbels on the second shelf? They're going to be back in the new year-I don't even know where or how just yet but I couldn't pass them up. Always fun to have a project-even if you're not sure how it will play out!

The sun room has just a simple nod to the holiday.

On to the family room.

The guest bath is next.

And last is the master bath-kind of the same as the autumn decor-no turkeys in here-unless you count me. Lol

This was a super busy weekend and a bit bittersweet. Grandson #1 played his last game in the Marion County Youth Football League...ever! Next year he will be playing in high school! Yikes!! Of course, his brother still has a few more years so we aren't saying good-bye to Jervey Gantt Fields just yet.

After the game, I've had Presley with me most of the weekend and we got caught up on some Thanksgiving fun. First, I helped her make some Indian Corn treats. We have made these before and they are a favorite so she wanted to do them again. She is so grown up now that she could probably do these all by herself but I think she humors me and lets me join in the fun.

These are made just like Rice Krispie treats except you use Reeses Cup Puff cereal and chocolate candies. She prefers Mini-M&Ms so that's what we used.

They need LOTS of butter on your hands to keep them from sticking.

After they're shaped like ears of corn, we inserted a short piece of lollipop stick onto which we tied some raffia husks.

Then we were off to do the exploding turkeys-we adapted these from pumpkins and ghosts when we couldn't fit them into our Halloween party schedule. Since we had all of the supplies ready, we went with it. We started by making baking soda "bombs" in TP packages.

Then we added vinegar to the bags with some corn starch and food coloring just to make them "prettier".

Lastly, we carefully added the bomb, zipped up the bag and watched the fun begin!

I'm not sure why this is so much fun, but we love it. In a bit I'm off to grandson #2's birthday celebration. Then Presley is coming back with me as her house will be invaded by boys for an over night after hours of bouncing at Sky Zone. I hope to use what I have left of tomorrow to get some pre-Thanksgiving cooking done and then will be on my way to Gainesville for the holiday and a few days with family. When I come back, I will be full on Christmas. Since we changed my family room this year, I'm thinking I might do a bit more farm house style-of course, you know I'm not one for change so we shall have to wait and see how that plays out! At least THIS has begun happening...and I couldn't be happier!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and stay tuned!

Thanksgiving Day is Coming!

Wow, one week from right now I will be finishing up my cooking and be off to Gainesville. Time is moving so quickly but I an fitting in lots of time with family and friends so I am OK with it all! I have an old friend on her way over for another day of talking, shopping and eating so I thought I would try to show you another room or two before I have to leave.

My taste changes frequently but I sometimes amaze myself with how long I can hold on to some things without ever the thought of maybe saying good-bye to them. I would totally expect that reaction with my pilgrim and turkey candles. I have told you the story before. They must have just been a holiday staple when I was young as both my mom and my in-laws always had a set in evidence for Thanksgiving. It just made sense that my husband and I would buy a set for our first Thanksgiving as a married couple 52 years ago...and they have made an appearance every year since. But, the little sign is simply a Thanksgiving card that I sent many, many years ago. I must have had one left over so I slipped it into a frame and it too has made many, many holiday appearances-not sure why-it just does.

As you look around the kitchen, you will see my now antique Publix pilgrims collection. I have the salt and pepper shakers, the spoon rest, mugs and a large platter. I think they also made a napkin holder at one time but I passed on that. It always tickles me when I step into an antique shop this time of year and not only see these "antiques" but the ridiculous prices attached to them. Maybe I should wrap them a little more carefully when I pack them away from here on out-lol.

So that is the kitchen for this year. I hope to be back tomorrow to get a little further along. Stay tuned.
