Of course, the obligatory photo op is always first. Some times it is just harder than others to get a "normal" picture-I'm at the point now when I will take what I get! Lol
Lunch was once again simple-leprechaun sandwiches, rainbow fruit kabobs and some chips. The vote was unanimous-Aunt Cyndi's leprechaun was the "best of show".
Normally the baseball cap would be removed in the house but Hudson had just gotten his new uniform and had team pictures that morning. He was so proud of himself that I couldn't say no.
If you know my horse obsessed grand daughter, you might be able to tell she had a hand in decorating the table!
After lunch, we designed our St. Pat's mugs and made our leprechaun "selfies" for the cake decorations.
Somehow or other, the topic of paper airplanes came up and the next thing we knew, everyone was busy designing their best aerodynamic inventions and the competition was on. It's amazing how long these kids were enthralled with this project!
While the boys were still coming up with yet more plane improvements, the girls moved inside where Presley took over the job of master cake decorator! She really did it all by herself and was pretty proud of the outcome!
Right about now, the kids were just itching to get into the pool-even though no one came equipped with bathing suits! I guess that little detail never stopped a kid-nor did the fact that it is still March! Note to self-once they've made it into the pool for the year, there is probably no going back so it just might be time to get the decks and furniture ready for another swim season!
We actually went pretty easy with dinner. In the past, we have churned out some fabulous presentations but, the
This year we went with bright green leprechaun bow ties with either pesto or green alfredo sauce (or, in some cases, both), a veggie rainbow to enhance our salads, broccoli and pot of gold garlic bread. I don't know if those kids had just worked up an appetite or they really loved it because they all had several helpings.
It was definitely fun watching that pasta boil!
Dessert was our shamrock cake or mint chip brownies with ice cream that Hud made for us.
Because Hudson kind of thinks of himself as an Iron Chef, I let him make the brownies all by himself. I had picked up a fairly large package of mint M&Ms and told him if he wanted, he could throw in a few. Being the "Iron Chef" that he is, he knew "just the right amount"-which translates to almost the whole bag. To say that these Brownies were yummy and chocolatey would be an under statement!
And, look at the inside of Presley's icing job! This cake is so moist and minty!
While Aunt Cyndi so generously cleaned up the kitchen, the rest of us set out playing some Minute-To-Win-It St. Pat games. I found a few we had never played before so it was really a fun evening before we all settled in for either a bit of TV or video games before bedtime.
Breakfast seems to be our go-to these days- theme shaped pancakes, bacon and fruit.
The kids never let me forget that we always end these weekends with their traditional treasure hunt-and this year was no different! I always use rainbow color coded clues hidden all around the whole yard leading them eventually to the "gold" at the end of the rainbow. Do you see it hiding there? We made it a bit more difficult this year but they eventually found their way to this spot.
So, another fun filled holiday weekend at Nana's is in the record books. Don't know how long these kids will want to continue doing this, but as long as they're willing, I'll be along for the ride!
I've got a few more days before St. Pat's will come down so I am going to turn on my lights, light my candles, put my feet up and sit back and enjoy! Stay tuned.
