Going for the Record!

Today was the day! I was going to take down the 4th of July decorations. I got up with good intentions but then I slowly began backing off. Just wasn't ready for the marathon session it would take not to mention the fact that I have no idea how I will decorate for the next 2 months. Thinking it will be my favorite "hot" summer colors so that I can incorporate all of my Mediterranean things-love that look. Rustic and earthy. But, I am kind of wanting to start out with no preconceived ideas and see where it takes me so I will need lots of energy and today wasn't that day!

Used up lots of my energy yesterday on these guys.

A number of years ago I was on an "update" frenzy. Guess I always sort of am because I like to have the most up-to-date things within reason. But, I digress once again. I was at the home of a friend and admiring her interior doors. She told me they had just had them all installed and that it was a little bit of buck for a lot of bang. I agreed and convinced my hubby to let me get right on that. And so, we went from flat, builder install doors to 6 panel ones. And what a difference it made! Back then, brass was all the rage in decorating so I couldn't wait to install these brass knobs.

And they have lived happily ever after until one day I "really" saw them and realized that they no longer go with any of my decor. And so I set out once again to convince my hubby why something that worked perfectly well had to be replaced with something that would just look prettier. Must have caught him at a weak moment - or I stretched the truth a bit about how much I thought they would be - as he gave me his blessing.

Once I got to my favorite Lowes, I headed straight to hardware and boy, was I in for a rude awakening. You see I wanted oil rubbed bronze levers. I actually wanted the ones to match the hardware I had put in the guest bath a few years back. I needed 8 locking levers and 3 non-locking. At $33.97 and $32.97 respectively, my "truth" just got stretched a bit thinner. Then, I saw the magical "yellow" sticker on the shelf by the non-locking ones-$19.38! Okay, we're getting better. But, the associate told me those were the only ones on sale. I tried hard to convince myself I would be happy with something else, but in the end, I decided to get what I love. After all, we've lived in this house almost 39 years and this is only the second time I am buying new knobs. So, I bit the bullet and grabbed them all up. Imagine my surprise when I hit the register and both sets rang up on sale. The locking ones were marked down to $20.38. Yeah! You could probably hear me whooping wherever you live!

Even though these levers are a bit more sophisticated and have more extra features than the regular knobs, they were so easy to install once I muddled my way through the instructions for the first. Took no time at all and, to me, made the biggest difference.

Now of course, my mind is racing with all sorts of other possibilities. Funny how that happens when you look at what you've gotten used to with different eyes. I feel some changes coming. Stay tuned.
