I'm sitting here waiting for the pest control guy to arrive anywhere within my many hour window and don't want to be outside knee deep in dirt or leaves before he comes so I decided to see what I could do around the house.
My first thought was to look back on last year's spring decor because it is absolutely GORGEOUS outside-windows are open and the gentlest breeze is blowing! I am stumped as to where I can incorporate my new color scheme idea without having to buy a lot of new stuff-and, if you know me, you know the last thing I need is more STUFF! Lol In order to do that I think I would definitely have to eliminate all purple and bright pink. I have no problem with eliminating the pink but I have a lot of purple in florals and in spring signs so I'm really in a conundrum right now. This decision will probably have to wait until I am actually decorating for spring and moving things around...which leaves me kind of hanging. I have this week until I have to start getting ready for Easter and I would love to be crafting!
With all of that in mind, I was roaming the house looking for something to do and I realized that I hadn't switched my bedding from my autumn/winter to spring/summer. Believe it or not, I used to have two more bedding sets-one specifically for just spring and one for Christmas. I don't remember when or why I whittled down my options. I have always been a sucker for anything Ralph Lauren. When we used to go to Atlanta frequently it always seemed as if I would run into one of his bedding sales...and I couldn't help myself. I totally love his florals-still do. The two that I still have are just so pretty. I'm aware that they may not be trendy these days but I don't care.
I will say, I used to do the bed up a bit more traditionally. I would have the comforter all the way up kind of like an old fashioned bedspread-gee, I wonder why my brain felt comfortable with "old fashioned"? Lol And, I used to have "curtains" or swags over the bars of the four poster bed. I loved the way that looked and how cozy it felt until one day I just decided to take it down...and that was that.
Now-a-days, I just throw the comforter on the bottom of the bed and then just add the pillows with shams. Nothing fancy but I love it.
And so today, my bedroom went from this-minus the Halloween pictures of the nightstand from when this picture was taken:
To this:
I still love that piece that hangs over the bed. I found it at Ballard Design many, many years ago. The only time it comes down is when I replace it with the Christmas sign I made.
And just a little nod to Easter in the bay window with a bunny shard and a Bethany Lowe Easter egg. Again, forgive the ladder in the picture. I've been trying to reconnect the gutter that runs in that area.
And in my desperation to come up with some craft ideas, I broke down and bought three more of these frames. I really don't know why I am so obsessed with them but I am. My initial plan had been to buy one and change it out with each swap but the back is just held on with three very thin tabs and I really feel as if they will break off if opened and shut too many times. And so, I bought enough to do sunflower, 4th of July and Halloween-maybe. I have so much Halloween already so I might skip that and fill it instead with a Thanksgiving image. But then, I will probably want Christmas as well so I see at least one more of these in my future.
Here's how I've used them so far.
February:
March:
And soon to be April:
Guess it's time to start looking for what I want to fill them with at least for 4th of July and sunflowers. There are so many, many images out there that it will be fun looking for the perfect one. As I was going back over my photos looking for these pictures, I happened upon this.
I actually made that back in January when I was making a similar faux tile craft for St. Patrick's day and I completely forgot about it. Now I'm excited to get to June when I can put out my patriotic decor-I wish I could get that excited about spring but it just doesn't do it for me. Lol
Dentist appointment and lacrosse games are coming up and then I will start thinking seriously about Easter. I'm baking my sugar cookie bunnies that I have made before.
These things are so delicious. I am not the world's best baker and even I can make these. This year I got a few other colors of sanding sugar so they will be even more festive. One year I made tiny, thin ribbon bows and attached them with royal icing but, for all of the trouble it was to do, the bows got pulled off right away to eat the cookie so I decided I wouldn't even bother with that any more. Lol
I am also making my European Swiss cereal from a recipe given to us by the owner of one of our favorite restaurants where it was served and I first had it and fell in love. I don't make it often because it is mostly oats soaked in a quart of heavy cream overnight and then thinned the next morning with a quart of half and half with added confectioner's sugar. Not the healthiest breakfast but so delicious especially over bananas, strawberries and cantaloupe.
And then I'm making a breakfast casserole. I decided to use a Pioneer Woman recipe instead of the one I had originally planned because it makes enough for the number we will be-if I had done the other I would have needed two with probably a lot of leftovers that everyone would refuse to take home and it would be left here for me to eat-which is really the last thing that I need to be doing with a physical looming in my future. Lol
And so, that is where we are. I'm going to get going on some cleaning but I am not going to go crazy because my two grand dogs will be coming on Friday and even if I have the house spotless, it will not be so after they've been here awhile. Lol Stay safe and stay tuned.
